I painted this as a gift for a friend of mine. We met here in San Quentin and were housed together for three years. We are both Puerto Ricans and had other things in common.
We went through the pandemic together as men were falling victim to COVID and dying. Both of us contracted the virus and we worked through it together. We’ve shared disappointments, the deaths of family/friends, celebrated good moments as well. We look out for each other. He’s become my younger brother. So, for his birthday I painted this image then left it on his bunk for him to discover.
