Mask is one of my more thought-provoking pieces. I created it to explore the human tendency to hide behind false appearances. In the painting, a woman holds a wooden mask she just removed, but when you look at her face, it still resembles the mask she wore. That contrast speaks to how deep deception can go; how the fake personas we create can stick with us, even when we try to take them off. The mask stands for pretense, for the ways we conceal our real feelings, intentions, and identities.
I made this piece to encourage self-awareness and introspection. It’s a reminder that authenticity takes courage. To truly live in truth, we have to know ourselves, face ourselves, and be willing to show up real; even when it’s uncomfortable.
