So Tiny, 2023

This painting originally started as a practice piece. I was trying to see how well I could paint a hand with watercolor, then my affection for faeries kicked in. The faery is a construct—her head, body and legs each came from different models. I use the hand she is sitting on as a scale reference to show how tiny this faery is. I really like the translucency of her wings.

This faery's name is Seraphina. She is the embodiment of the joyous caprice of the Fae. She is here to remind us that we are all beautiful and not to take life too seriously. Seraphina gives us permission to be ourselves—with the masks, pretences, and falsehoods stripped away.
