I was looking through an old National Geographic that had a story about the Inuit. The article spoke about their culture, traditions, and ingenuity. When I came across the 1” x 1 1/2” image of the wooden mask, it caught my attention. The caption stated that it was a sorcerer’s wooden mask that was discovered on Bylot Island, and it was estimated to be 1,000 years old. That made the mask even more intriguing to me. This was a mask of sacred power. I already had a canvas prepared for something else, but this mask was perfect for it.
