Against Asian Hate, 2024

I painted this because the father of one of my art instructors, Amy Ho, was murdered. I wanted to do something to honor her father’s memory. I chose to depict an unidentified Asian woman to both symbolize the object of hate and love. The background figures tell a story of complete opposites. On the right are Western symbols of evil, hate and all that is bad. The symbols on the left of the woman symbolize good, love, blessings, a kind of yin & yang. Love overcomes evil when the dragon breathes out blessings.
