Over the past decades of incarceration much has been lost to that unstoppable passage of time. It is unrecoverable. This illustration was completed just days after my mother's passing away. Pre-Release is an amalgamation of what the prison experience has been for me. It is representative of the concept of "leaving prison before getting out." In order to accomplish that I must rise above the wreckage of my past, learn from it, and recover the true "me" that was lost to ignorance. Moving from that ignorance to understanding and acceptance requires resilience, a fearless effort, and commitment. As progress is made there comes a sense of being grounded. A sense of equanimity. This is the birthplace of inner peace. This has freed my humanity and my spirit.
