This is the second painting for the “Involuntary Servitude” project. Not wanting to use a recognizable “inside” workplace, I used the image of an abandoned factory. Ironically, it still resembled the factory workplaces within the system. I’ve personally worked in them in order to earn a few dollars.
More often than not, incarcerated individuals have to continue to work beyond what would be retirement age. The work, the workplace, the treatment by some staff can all drain the vitality from your spirit.
