The Only Door I Can Open: Women Exposing Prison through Art and Poetry

About our Exhibition

This project is a follow-up collaboration with Flyaway Productions and Museum of the African Diaspora, this time working with women from the Central California Women’s Facility at Chowchilla. Flyaway Productions has guided the exhibition by posing the question, “How is Your Bed an Antidote?” to the artists. In response two curators, five visual artists and two poets have created The Only Door I Can Open: Women Exposing Prison Through Art and Poetry, an interactive exhibition curated from within the prison by Tomiekia Johnson and Chantell-Jeannette Black. This project will launch in the fall of 2023.

[Exhibit will launch online at MoAD this fall]

[**** in the fall we will be hosting their artwork for sale as part of the project, we should discuss how we can highlight and amplify this project and art sale/auction during the run of the show October 2023-February 2024]
